Commissions

Oil portraits

Size

Any size from about 8×10 inches.

Typical middle-sized portraits measure 25×30 inches unframed.

Content

Although a head and shoulders portrait is normally straightforward, half or full-length portraits with hands, in a specific setting and inclusion of personal effects are more complex and are priced accordingly.

Fees

Fees vary according to portrait size, content and how often sittings are needed.

Fees from £400 – depending on portrait size, complexity, content and sittings.

Fees by bank transfer or cheque payable to Mr A Shorthouse, within 28 days of receipt of the painting. I will then donate the full fee, minus expenses, to St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield.

Following discussion about detail required, commissions will be individually quoted.

Live sittings are advisable and several may be required at an agreed venue. Getting to know the sitter is important to agree on pose. For this reason, I prefer working from a combination of live sittings and photography, although I am able to work from photographs alone.

Ideal portrait size can be discussed in terms of composition and budget.

When a commission has been verbally agreed a formal contract will be drawn up between the client and the artist.

Animal Commissions

Animal commissions in oil require high resolution photography. For examples please see my portfolio. Terms and conditions as above.

Framing

I would normally arrange for a finished painting to be framed and that would be additional to the cost of the portrait.
